Sheila Nana Akua Ashong is a natural scientist with over 22 years of experience in biodiversity conservation, including protected area management, environmental assessment, heritage evaluation and community education, especially women, and youth empowerment. 

Currently the Acting Director for Natural Resources in the Environmental Protection Authority of Ghana and the Coordinator for Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme in Ghana, she has served on several national and international advisory bodies including the International Advisory Committee for UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, the Advisory Committee for the Biosphere Reserves Institute of Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development - Germany. She is also a Scientific Expert on the Advisory panel of the Convention on Wetlands and a member of Women for the Environment (WE Africa) movement.
